A vertex based approach to crystal facet modelling in phase field

Abstract This paper seeks a vertex based approach to faceted anisotropy in phase field modelling of crystal growth. We examine Wulff shapes and the connection they have with formulations. On inspecting current approaches facets within we observe that there are two distinct approaches: one implements faceting purely kinetic parameter thus avoiding complications taking gradients discontinuous functions; while second is upon regularisation function free energy function. Armed our new insight into operation refine these advocate facet modelling. Results include regular irregular morphologies hill-valley also present high undercooling effects on faceting, which can cause breaks and, case shapes, distortion underlying shape.
